Project Information
Upgrading existing doors to fire doors as part of a community building restoration. These doors required joinery repairs as well as intumescent coating and veneer panel system to be applied in order to produce FD30 fire doors. This building was a listed building in the heart of Roscommon, Ireland which required Envirograf's fire door upgrading system to provide modern fire protection to historic doors. The contractor on this project wanted to retain the doors historic value and aesthetic whilst providing the occupants of this history rich landmark, the appropriate protection to fire.
There were 4 doors in this project that all required joinery repairs and fire protection using Envirograf products. The restoration of these doors was carried out by our Ireland/Northern Ireland approved installers Flamma Ltd. The restoration brought these listed pieces back to their prior glory with an extra bit of protection.
The intumescent coating system used on these historic timber doors was the HW white intumescent coating system; consisting of HWAP Primer, HW01/f intumescent coating and HW04/s solvent based topcoat. Intumescent wood filler was used to fill any small holes/gaps within the doors which was further backed by the intumescent panel veneer with the Stabond Primer, to prep the panels for gluing to the veneer. The intumescent panel veneer was required as the door panel thickness was below the minimum requirement to achieve FD30.
It is imperative that the modern day building not only has adequate fire protection measures for doors but the surrounding frames as well. In this instance the frames were repaired and upgraded using Blue60 fire foam, HW intumescent coating system, Flexible Sponge Cavity Barrier (FSC) and AM intumescent acoustic mastic. The architraves for these frames were removed and set aside to be repaired and reused once the fire stopping of the frames was complete. The architraves were coated with the HW intumescent coating system once repaired and fixed back into place.
